Meta's metaverse software's primary leader is leaving the firm

Vivek Sharma, vice president of Meta's Horizon social networking virtual reality platform, is leaving the business, according to a spokesperson on Friday.

Sharma has worked with Facebook parent Meta for six years, rising through the ranks of its marketplace, gaming, and, most recently, its embryonic metaverse-related business unit.

Sharma, a vice president of Horizon and a resident of the Seattle region, managed a number of VR initiatives, including the Horizon Worlds social media platform.

In a statement, a Meta official noted that the Horizon product group has developed a strong team and an ambitious goal as a result of his leadership.

The spokesperson also stated that Vishal Shah, Meta's VP of the Metaverse, will now be solely responsible for overseeing the Horizon team.

The next step in computing, according to Meta, is the metaverse, a collection of virtual worlds that users of VR and associated augmented reality technology may explore.
